The Government has announced that leisure and other international travel will be permitted to resume from 17 May.
If you’re booking a holiday to a green-list destination this summer, what should you be doing to keep your trip – and your money – safe and protected? Take a read of our top tips to find out.
- Make sure it’s ATOL protected
ATOL financial protection means that if your holiday provider ceases trading, your money is safe and you will be reimbursed through the ATOL scheme.
Look out for the ATOL logo on your travel agent’s shop front or brochure, or on their website if you are browsing online.
Do your research on your travel provider. Look at reviews online and remember to check their ATOL number on our website to make sure they are a legitimate company. You can find the ATOL search function at:
- Check requirements on entry to your destination
In these unprecedented times, make sure you are following the rules and requirements for entry to your destination. Many countries or territories will require specific documentation such as evidence of a negative Covid-19 test to allow you to cross the border, so check the UK Government’s travel advice and the local requirements before you travel.
You can find more travel advice from the Government at: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.
- Pay on credit card for further protection
While ATOL protection means your cash is safe should you holiday provider cease trading, you should also pay on a credit card if you are able to. Paying on credit card adds extra protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, should you not receive the product or holiday you have paid for.
This is particularly important if you are booking flights separately and are not booking an ATOL protected package holiday.
- Take out travel insurance
We always recommend that you take out comprehensive travel insurance. In these challenging times for the global community, it is even more important to make sure you have read and understood what your insurance package covers for further peace of mind.
- Follow Government guidelines on your return to the UK
It is important when you return from your trip that you make sure to follow the rules for re-entry to the UK. The Government’s requirements for returning to the UK will differ depending on the traffic light rating of your destination, so make sure you keep up to date with the rules to make sure you do not receive a fine when looking to return home.
Book ATOL protected.
Pack peace of mind.
